HazingPrevention.Org Position Description
Service to HPO This committee is integral to the creation of quality webinar programming that meets the needs of a broad audience. The programs of HazingPrevention.Org shall be those that address the mission of the organization as approved by the Board of Directors.
Position Impact HazingPrevention.Org’s webinar programs provide easily accessible and affordable presentations from experts on hazing to a wide-range of audiences, including students and professional staff. Because of their specialized nature and easy access, the webinars have the potential to provide a large number of participants with the tools to recognize, prevent, and address hazing in their communities. Reaching a large number of people allows HPO to fulfill its mission broadly and provide an exceptional program that provides important tools for persons who aspire to counter hazing culture. The mission of HPO is “Empowering people to prevent hazing in college and university environments to foster a more developmental student experience within groups."
Duties
- Work with the Webinar Committee Chair to manage all matters related to the webinar programs.
- Determine topics and audience for each program.
- Develop promotional plan for webinars.
- Develop learning outcomes for webinars.
- Recruit presenters to develop and implement the curriculum for each program.
- Coordinate logistics for the webinar in partnership with the Executive Director and other volunteers including program date and time, handouts, power-point slides and other webinar components (polls, interactive elements, chat boxes, etc), website page for materials, evaluation development, etc.
- Participate in the implementation of the webinar including sending out pre-program emails to participants and running the webinar logistics the day of.
- Partner with the Programming Committee liaison.
- Complete other duties as determined in partnership with the governing board and Executive Director.
Qualifications and Skills Members of this committee should have some or all of the following characteristics:
- Experience with program management and promotion;
- Knowledge about hazing-related issues and implications of hazing for a broad range of stakeholders;
- Basic understanding of hosting a webinar using online technology (training will be provided).
Benefits Committee members have experience in creating curriculum for and hosting virtual learning forums. These skills likely carry over into other organizations with which a person is affiliated
Supervision & Support The Chair provides supervision and support. The Executive Director will support the committee and provide information as needed.
Training for HPO Committee positions is conducted annually each fall or as needed for new volunteers. The Volunteer Coordinator will provide training through a required one-hour required volunteer training session. The Webinar Chair will provide additional training specific to the position.
Required Commitment Members are appointed for one calendar year. Members of this committee can expect to spend approximately 5-7 hours per month on the group’s activities. There may be some times of the year that are busier than others. Members will be asked to participate in quarterly conference calls with the committee chair as well as monthly email communication. Additional communication may be needed depending on the project load. Participation in the webinars is expected. Webinars typically take place two each semester of the school year and one in the summer. Committee Members are encouraged to contribute financially to HPO as able. Donations can be made via www.hazingprevention.org. Members may be asked and are encouraged to attend and participate in HPO programs.
Reporting Committee members will report to the committee chair, which reports to the Board. The Committee chair will develop an annual Project Plan (goals), and provide quarterly status reports.
