empowering people to prevent hazing
|
My son was at a catholic high school sleep away soccer camp. Five boys pulled his pants down, and said why don't you shave the hair off his ass? Another grabbed his front genitals and then called him gay and fag. He had to fight off four boys as he took a shower, and the boys took pictures, putting them on the internet. My son suffered. I had to keep him from killing himself over the rumors of him being on the internet taking a shower. He was a 4.2 GPA student. Not one of the catholic students stood up for him when any of this was going on! My son was damaged by this experience. Time away at a ski academy helped heal him and get his self-esteem back. Then there was a second hazing at a sports camp of the same school. What is a kid's life worth? The school never expelled trouble-makers. They chose athletes over a good, all-around kid who didn't fight back. I blame other kids for not sticking up for him. They didn't want to be next. My son didn't want to get a label like the football student who was hazed. I have no respect for his school. They preach zero tolerance but don't practice it. I as the mother have not healed.
